About the Project

This project emerged from an in-depth State Policy Series co-led by PSI NJ and coalition partners, who identified key priorities such as PMH workforce development and addressing maternal and child health in underserved communities.

New Jersey faces one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the U.S., with significant racial disparities. People of color are disproportionately affected, and mental health conditions are among the leading—and largely preventable—causes of maternal death.

Through this partnership, we aim to train a diverse range of healthcare providers in the Greater Newark area—including nurses, doctors, doulas, and community health workers—in Perinatal Mental Health. The project also seeks to better understand local needs and connect families with vital support and resources.

Funded by an Educational Grant from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey and Postpartum Support International.
